Welcome to yoga at In Stillness and Strength.  

As a yoga teacher, my approach is simple - to cultivate inner stillness and peace through the mindful practice of yoga, whilst also strengthening the body and enhancing mobility.

When we make space in our lives for yoga, it rewards us richly. My desire is to create a space in classes where you can experience the joy of yoga and the peace that flows from that.

In our fast-paced world, stillness is rare. Finding ease and gentleness, slowing down, savouring the moment, connecting breath and movement - these are practices useful both on and off the yoga mat.

My focus is on embodied practice, feeling and knowing our bodies better, enjoying them, and accepting ourselves where we are, whatever our shape and whatever our bodies are capable of. In turn we will develop strength.

 

About me

 

  • My name is Jan and I am a yoga teacher based in Beverley, East Yorkshire. I am a retired nurse academic having practiced, taught and researched nursing for 40 years. I am also mum to three adult children, a Christian, ultrarunner, musician, and dressmaker.


  • I didn't discover yoga until my early 50s and each day I am grateful for what it teaches me about my body, mind and breath. It has helped me to appreciate my body, to know and understand it better and also to become a calmer and more peaceful person.


  • Now as a teacher of yoga, I hope that I can instill this calm and peace in my classes. My approach is influenced by my Christian faith, so there's no chanting, chakras or Sanskrit - just simple, slow, mindful yoga practice that celebrates and honours our bodies and helps us look after them wisely.


  • If you're looking for a gentle approach to yoga, one that combines stillness and strength, then you have come to the right place! Please do get in touch.

Class times and prices

I teach classes on:


Monday evenings, 5-6pm at the Quaker Meeting House

Quaker Lane, off Woodlands, Beverley (HU17 8BY) (from March 2025)


Tuesday evenings, 6-7pm and again 7.30-8.30pm at the Quaker Meeting House

Quaker Lane, off Woodlands, Beverley (HU17 8BY)


Thursday afternoons, 3-4pm Yin yoga at Karinya Yoga

off Lairgate, Beverley (HU17 8EX) https://www.karinyayoga.co.uk/ 


All classes are £8.


I also do 1-2-1s or 1-2-2s, so please do get in touch for more information.
